Sam Well's Blog
I think it is pretty clear to everyone why I took down all of my social media sites. I am only putting this blog up to explain, apologize, and give warning to other teens. I have learned a lot these past few weeks. When my girlfriend and I broke up, I took the naked picture she had sent me months before, and sent it to a few of my friends. They sent it to a few of their friends, and before I realized what I had done, the picture had gone viral to friends, family, teachers, and the police. I was arrested, charged, and indicted on possession and distribution of child pornography. I will most likely take a plea, maybe serve little to no jail time, but be forced to register as a sex offender. I had no idea what any of that even meant. When I sent that picture out of anger, I did not realize the consequences that would follow. As a sex offender, I will be lumped in with the pedophiles and rapists. I cannot live to close to schools, or parks, and that means my family will have to move. For the rest of my life when I apply for a job, I will have to tell them I am a registered sex offender and anytime I move, the people that I move near will be alerted. I am not saying that I didn’t deserve to be kicked of the football team, and even be expelled, but I do believe that there needs to be a change in the law to catch up with technology. I also wrote this blog to apologize to my Kaylin for sending the picture out. It was wrong of me to do and you don’t deserve the harassment you are getting. I take responsibility for what I have done and will live that, but I am going to make it my goal to make sure I talk to other teens about the dangers of sexting and where you can end up because of it.
Again, I am sincerely sorry to all the people that have been affected by my poor judgement.
Sincerely,
Sam Wells
