With the technology today, kids as young elementary school have full access to internet and cell phones. There is a major epidemic in our country of teens “sexting.” Whether parents want to admit it or not, teenagers are sending sexual messages and naked pictures of themselves to their boyfriends and girlfriends. In most cases it's the girl sending a picture or message to the guy (Galanos). Even when a picture is innocently sent to someone you trust, and is meant to be private, once you hit send that picture is out there for good. There have been too many cases of a girl sending a boyfriend a picture and then they either send it to buddy to show off, or when you break up, he sends it out of spite. The picture can quickly go viral and be seen by anyone, including your friends, family, teachers, and employers. It seems the embarrassment would be punishment enough, but what these young teenagers do not understand is send that innocent picture, can be looked at is taking and distributing child pornography. The laws have yet to catch up with technology in most states, so whoever took, received, and sent out that picture can be facing a felony and jail time. It is clear that nothing will stop a lot of teens from sending these pictures of themselves, even when a lot of them know the consequences, so the laws in a lot of states need to start catching up to technology; and the states need to focus “Megan’s Law,” which forces people charged with this crime to register as sex offenders, on the pedophiles it was meant for (Potter).
